Brazil ramps up electric vehicle production with MG Motor plant in Ceará and GWM megafactory in Espírito Santo

MG Motor, the British‑owned brand of China’s SAIC Motor, announced a R$400 million investment to build an electric‑vehicle factory at the former Troller site in Horizonte, Ceará. Production is slated to begin between late 2026 and early 2027, targeting 50,000 MG4 Urban hatchbacks and MG S5 SUVs over four years and creating about 600 direct and indirect jobs.

Chinese automaker GWM is preparing its first fully electric Ora 5 model for production at a new megafactory in Aracruz, Espírito Santo. The plant will be built in phases, initially capable of assembling up to 100,000 vehicles annually and ultimately reaching 200,000 units, with a projected 10,000 jobs. The facility will also serve as an export hub for several Latin‑American markets, complementing GWM’s existing operations in São Paulo.

Both projects reflect a broader push to expand Brazil’s electric‑vehicle supply chain, reduce import‑tax burdens, and stimulate regional economic development.
