Brazil recognizes emergency in seven cities due to drought
The Brazilian National Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense has officially recognized a state of emergency in seven cities across the states of Alagoas, Bahia, and Paraíba due to severe drought conditions.
The affected municipalities include Canapi in Alagoas; Gavião and Poções in Bahia; and Brejo dos Santos, Frei Martinho, Monte Horebe, and São José de Espinharas in Paraíba. This recognition allows these cities to request federal resources and humanitarian assistance, including food baskets, water supply, and hygiene kits.
To access these funds, local governments must submit detailed work plans for analysis and approval by the National Civil Defense.
