Brazil reopens applications for health residency programs

Brazil has reopened applications for health and medical residency programs, allowing institutions to create new programs or expand existing ones. Applications must be submitted by August 31 through the SisCNRM or Sinar systems.

Eligible applicants include universities, federal institutes, states, municipalities, SUS schools, public foundations, and private health or teaching institutions. Through the Pró-Residência program—a partnership between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health—funding is provided for scholarships to train specialists in strategic areas and priority territories for the Unified Health System (SUS).

In this second call, priority will be given to programs in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions. While the first call in February resulted in 898 scholarships, the new notices aim to expand capacity significantly, projecting up to 3,000 scholarships for medical residencies and up to 1,000 for other health professional areas.
