Brazil reports apartment fires and extreme weather damage
Multiple incidents involving fires and extreme weather have been reported across Brazil. In Belo Horizonte, a large fire in a second-floor apartment in the Prado neighborhood left two people injured, including a 15-year-old with second-degree burns and an unconscious woman.
In Porto Velho, Rondônia, an apartment fire on Avenida Rio Madeira left at least six people injured due to burns and smoke inhalation. Authorities suspect the blaze was caused by a short circuit in a mobile phone charger.
Additionally, extreme meteorological events have impacted Rondônia. A lightning strike created a crater on the BR-364 highway, while severe windstorms and hail destroyed crops and rural infrastructure. Simultaneously, the low water level of the Rio Madeira is affecting approximately 22,000 residents in 85 riverside communities, complicating navigation and access to drinking water.
