Brazil's alcohol consumption rises and wine sales set to surge during World Cup

Data from the Ministry of Health's Vigitel 2024 survey show that abusive alcohol use among adults in Brazil's capital cities has climbed to 20.4%, up from 15.7% in 2006, with a notable increase among women. Health officials warn that excessive drinking raises the risk of liver disease, hypertension, cancers, mental‑health disorders and social problems.

Meanwhile, wine importer WS Wine expects a 20% increase in sales this winter, driven by colder temperatures in São Paulo, the upcoming World Cup and holiday travel. The company is expanding its portfolio with additional Italian, Spanish and Portuguese labels to meet rising consumer demand for premium wines in restaurants and home consumption.
