Brazil emergency services respond to missing hikers and various fatalities

Multiple search and rescue operations are underway across Brazil following several incidents involving missing persons and fatalities.

In Morrinhos do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, firefighters are searching for four hikers—a man, two women, and a teenager—who disappeared in the Tajuvas Canyon after deviating from a recommended path. The operation utilizes search dogs and thermal drones to navigate the difficult terrain near the borders of Santa Catarina.

In other regions, a 14-year-old girl from Paraná was successfully rescued unharmed in Mato Grosso do Sul following a joint operation by the Civil Police and Federal Police. The suspect, a 33-year-old man, was arrested in Aparecida do Taboado.

Tragic incidents were also reported in water-related accidents. A 28-year-old man was found dead after being swept away by currents in the Jauru River in Mato Grosso, and a 57-year-old man's body was recovered in Sergipe following a suspected drowning in Pirambu. Additionally, a man survived an attempted homicide in Piauí by feigning death after being shot multiple times.
