Anderson José da Fonseca indicted for 28‑stab femicide in Guarapuava, Brazil

On the night of 27 June 2026, Suelen Cristina Cordeiro, 31, was murdered in her home in Guarapuava, Paraná. Her partner, Anderson José da Fonseca, entered the house with a knife, locked the door with a padlock and stabbed her 28 times over approximately six minutes. Neighbours heard her cries and attempted to force entry, but were unable to reach her. After the attack the suspect fled, exiting through a window and discarding the house key. He was apprehended a short time later at a nearby bar, where police also seized the weapon and his vehicle. The police investigation revealed a history of abuse and prior threats in the relationship. The case was closed by the Paraná Civil Police, and Anderson José da Fonseca was formally indicted for femicide, facing a potential sentence of 12 to 30 years in prison. "Deduzimos que essas agressões tenham durado pelo menos seis minutos no interior da residência, enquanto vizinhos tentavam a todo tempo acessar a residência," said delegada Ana Hass de Miranda.
