Brazil rice market stabilizes as Conab announces large-scale paddy rice auctions
The Brazilian rice market is experiencing price stability driven by restricted commercial supply and growing expectations regarding the upcoming harvest. While there is no evidence of physical scarcity, prices have shown support due to limited negotiable marginal supply. In certain regions, prices have reached between R$ 81 and R$ 90 per bag, with significant price dispersion based on quality, location, and delivery conditions.
In September, the trade balance for rice shifted from a partial deficit to a surplus of approximately 6,400 tons of paddy rice, with 123,700 tons exported against 117,300 tons imported. Export interest remains relevant, with shipments scheduled for Nicaragua and Senegal.
Simultaneously, the National Supply Company (Conab) is conducting electronic auctions to purchase up to 96,400 tons of paddy rice from the 2025/26 harvest. These auctions are divided into two sessions, targeting long-grain, type 1 rice with specific whole-grain yield requirements. Maximum purchase prices have been set at approximately R$ 1.7482 per kilogram, excluding taxes.
