Brazil seeks international investment for R$ 262.6 billion transport projects
The Brazilian government has launched a series of meetings in London to present R$ 262.6 billion in highway and railway projects scheduled for 2027. The investment portfolio includes 29 opportunities, with 18 railway projects totaling R$ 160 billion and 11 highway contracts valued at R$ 102.68 billion.
In a parallel move to bolster the sector, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has doubled its annual financing limit for the acquisition and manufacture of trains, wagons, and locomotives. The ceiling per economic group has increased from R$ 500 million to R$ 1 billion. This expansion aims to stimulate the national industry and support the decarbonization of transport.
BNDES infrastructure superintendent Felipe Borim stated that the measure responds to sector demand and expects to facilitate relevant financing within the year. The bank is also shifting toward using capital market instruments, such as debentures, to recycle its balance sheet and support new infrastructure projects.
