Brazil extends Desenrola Brasil 2.0 debt‑renegotiation program to Aug 31, 2026
The Federal Ministry of Finance confirmed that the Desenrola Brasil 2.0 program, created to renegotiate consumer debt, will remain active until 31 August 2026. The extension was decided jointly by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Finance Minister Dario Durigan and will be formalised by a ministerial act. The government said the additional month will not require new fiscal resources and will have no impact on public accounts, while the program’s rules – including interest caps of 1.99 % per month and discounts up to 90 % – stay unchanged.
The extension is intended to give borrowers more time to settle or restructure their debts and to facilitate access to credit, especially for ride‑share drivers, taxi drivers, delivery workers and truckers who need a clean credit record to obtain vehicle financing through the Move Brasil programme.
A separate study by the Netlab laboratory at UFRJ identified 544 fraudulent ads about Desenrola Brasil that ran on Meta platforms (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, Messenger and Audience Network) between 1 April and 14 June 2026. The ads were posted by 48 pages; 72 % misused the official program name or government imagery, and 38 % contained AI‑generated content. The researchers noted that Meta had previously been fined R$ 9.3 million after the Ministry of Justice ordered the removal of similar ads in 2023, but the fraudulent campaigns resurfaced after the launch of the second phase of the program.
