Brazil sees rising plastic surgery demand due to rapid weight loss

Rapid weight loss driven by the increased use of GLP-1 medications is leading to a rise in demand for plastic surgery to address skin sagging and body contouring. In Brazil, the three highest-grossing weight-loss medications generated R$ 13.3 billion between May 2025 and May 2026.

Data from Serasa Experian indicates that e-commerce orders for GLP-1 associated medications rose 149.3% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, totaling R$ 2.3 billion. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) notes that such rapid weight loss can impair skin elasticity and regeneration, as the effects of these medications extend beyond fat loss to include muscles and ligaments.
