Brazil sees teachers and bus drivers suspend work over pay disputes

Municipal schools in Campo Grande, Brazil, were closed on Friday after teachers began a strike demanding the 5.4% salary increase stipulated in the "Piso 20 horas" policy. The protest, organized by the local teachers' union, included a march toward the city hall and halted both classroom instruction and administrative services.

In Rio Grande do Norte, a planned strike by inter‑municipal bus drivers was called off for a week after transport companies agreed to meet the union’s demands, which cover salary increments, meal allowances, health‑plan assistance and other benefits. The suspension allows both sides to finalize the wording of the collective agreement before it is formally ratified.
