Brazil selects ‘Feito Pipa’ for Oscar Best International Feature category

Brazil has selected the film ‘Feito Pipa’ as its official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The submission deadline for countries is October 1, with a shortlist of 15 films expected to be announced on December 15 and official nominations on January 21.

Other notable international contenders include Spain’s ‘A Bola Negra’, Romania’s ‘Fjord’, and France’s ‘Minotauro’. The competition features several winners from major festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.

In a related development, Rodrigo Teixeira, producer of the acclaimed Brazilian film ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’, predicted a significant shift in the Academy Awards. Speaking at the Creative Investors’ Conference during the San Sebastián Festival, Teixeira suggested that international films could represent 60% of the Best Picture category within five years. He attributed this potential trend to increased creative freedom and better project development conditions outside the United States compared to the current American film industry.
