Brazil services sector employs 15.9 million people in 2024

According to the 2024 Annual Services Survey (PAS) released by IBGE, Brazil's non-financial services sector employed 15.9 million people. The sector, comprising 1.9 million active companies, generated R$ 3.5 trillion in net operating revenue and added R$ 2.1 trillion to the national GDP. Workers in this segment earned an average monthly salary of 2.2 minimum wages.

Food services emerged as the largest employer, accounting for 11.7% of the workforce (1.9 million people), followed by technical-professional services at 11.2%. Professional, administrative, and complementary services led in both revenue share (29.4%) and employment proportion (44.2%).

Regional data highlights varying economic strengths. In the Distrito Federal, the sector reached R$ 87 billion in gross revenue with an average salary of 2.4 minimum wages. Goiás leads the Center-West region in the number of service companies (62,400) and employment (451,200 people). Mato Grosso do Sul reported R$ 38.1 billion in revenue, with transport services contributing the largest share at R$ 15.2 billion.
