Brazil services and transport sector growth
Overview
Brazil has experienced significant growth across its aviation, services, and transport sectors. In the first seven months of 2026, the aviation sector reached a 26-year passenger record, with 59 million domestic passengers and 17.7 million international passengers recorded. This growth was supported by an 8% increase in business travel revenue compared to 2025. Broadening to the wider economy, the services and transport sectors have also shown strong activity. Data from the 2024 Annual Services Survey (PAS) released by IBGE shows that the non-financial services sector, comprising 1.9 million active companies, generated R$ 3.5 trillion in net operating revenue and added R$ 2.1 trillion to the national GDP. This sector employed 15.9 million people, with an average monthly salary of 2.2 minimum wages. Key employment drivers included food services, employing 1.9 million people (11.7% of the workforce), and technical-professional services, employing 1.8 million (11.2%). Professional, administrative, and complementary services contributed the largest share of net operating revenue at 29.4% and represented 44.2% of employment. Regional economic impacts vary; for instance, the Distrito Federal saw R$ 87 billion in gross revenue with an average salary of 2.4 minimum wages, while Mato Grosso do Sul’s service sector generated R$ 38.1 billion, with transport services contributing R$ 15.2 billion. In Goiás, the Center-West region saw 62,400 service companies and 451,200 employees. IBGE notes that due to methodological changes in the survey, direct historical comparisons with previous years are not possible. Meanwhile, the transport sector saw a sharp rise in employment. According to the National Confederation of Transport (CNT), the sector created 16,217 formal jobs in June, representing a 91.55% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
