Brazil: Deadline for 2026 transit voting set for August 20
Brazilian voters have until August 20, 2026, to request 'voto em trânsito' (transit voting) for the 2026 general elections. This mechanism allows for the temporary transfer of voting locations for those who will be away from their registered domicile. The service is available in state capitals and municipalities with more than 100,000 voters.
If the temporary location is within the same state, voters can vote for all offices, including president, governor, senator, and deputies. If the location is in a different state, voting is restricted to the presidency. Requests can be made online via the TSE self-service portal for those with registered biometrics, or in person at any electoral registry office.
In Paraná, women with active protective orders can also request a temporary change of voting location to ensure safety and privacy. Additionally, the TRE-GO has introduced the 'Seu Voto Importa' program, which provides free transportation for voters with disabilities or reduced mobility. To facilitate travelers, voting sections will also be installed at Guarulhos International Airport.
