Brazil sets record 28‑year World Cup title drought after Norway loss
Brazil was knocked out by Norway in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The defeat extends the interval since Brazil’s last championship in 2002 to 28 years, the longest title drought in the nation’s history.
The new record surpasses the previous 24‑year gap between 1970 and 1994. Coach Carlo Ancelotti, who confirmed he will stay on through the 2030 edition, said the setback marks a new rebuilding phase for the team as they look ahead to the next opportunity to end the drought.
