Brazil Social Security Minister supports minimum wage linkage
Brazilian Social Security Minister Wolney Queiroz has expressed strong support for linking social security and social assistance benefits to the minimum wage. He also advocated for a policy of real gains for the minimum wage, stating that failing to index these benefits would unfairly disadvantage retirees.
During a visit to an INSS agency in Taguatinga, Queiroz announced that the agency's service backlog is expected to be cleared by September. He attributed this progress to the implementation of new technology, productivity bonuses for civil servants, and the full mobilization of federal medical experts. Queiroz clarified that clearing the queue is a fulfillment of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign promise rather than a move timed for elections.
