Bolsonaro appeals to Brazil Supreme Court to lift visit ban on son Flávio

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, serving a 27‑year prison‑house sentence for a coup‑related case, is under a court‑ordered house arrest that bars him from posting on social media. After his son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, posted a letter written by Jair on his own networks, Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes prohibited Flávio from visiting his father for 90 days, citing a breach of the house‑arrest conditions. On 20 July, Bolsonaro’s legal team filed an appeal to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) arguing that Flávio, who is also his lawyer, should be permitted family visits and that the ban is disproportionate. The appeal seeks to have the visitation restriction overturned and to allow the father‑son meetings under the lawyer‑client privilege.

Separately, a request for Argentine President Javier Milei to visit Bolsonaro was also denied by Moraes, who upheld the broader ban on political‑electoral visits until after the 2026 elections. Both decisions keep Bolsonaro largely isolated from political allies while his health, after a recent bout of pneumonia, remains a concern.
