Brazil Supreme Court Convicts Eduardo Bolsonaro of Judicial Coercion

Brazil's Supreme Court (STF) First Chamber unanimously convicted former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercing the judiciary in the case concerning the alleged coup attempt involving his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro. The court sentenced him to four years and two months in a semi‑open regime, imposed eight years of ineligibility to hold public office, and stripped him of his Federal Police clerk position. The judgment was authored by relator Justice Alexandre de Moraes and supported by ministers Cristiano Zanin, Carmen Lúcia and Flávio Dino. The court found that Eduardo Bolsonaro sought U.S. sanctions and tariff measures to influence the trial of his father. He resides in the United States, lost his parliamentary mandate for prolonged absence, and is unlikely to serve the sentence while abroad. The decision can be appealed.
