Brazil Supreme Court postpones labor case, reviews Bolsonaro house arrest and archives Jan 8 incitement probes

The Supreme Federal Court (STF) entered recess on 2 July, pushing back the pending judgments on the “uberisation” of platform‑based work, the Dosimetry law that reduced sentences for coup‑attempt convictions, and the drafting of a code of ethics for its ministers. The delay follows requests from the Ministry of Labor and the Public Defender’s Office to consider a new ILO convention on digital platform employment.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the archiving of investigations into deputy André Fernandes (CE) and ex‑deputy Silvia Waiãpi (AP) for alleged incitement to the 8 January 2023 attacks on the Three Powers. The Prosecutor‑General’s Office argued that the evidence did not establish a causal link between their posts and the violence, and the STF complied.

Moraes also scheduled a hearing with former President Jair Bolsonaro’s defense to decide whether to extend his humanitarian house‑arrest. The deliberation will weigh Bolsonaro’s medical reports and a recent seizure of a Glock pistol registered to him, while the Prosecutor‑General has asked the court to await the conclusion of the police inquiry before ruling.

In related actions, Moraes gave the Prosecutor‑General 15 days to comment on the Federal Police’s finding that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro committed the crime of calúnia against President Luiz Inácio Lula, and set a similar deadline for the PF report on that matter.
