Jair Bolsonaro to testify in weapon‑seizure probe
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes authorized former President Jair Bolsonaro to give a deposition in the investigation of a firearm seized from one of his security agents. The authorization was issued on 19 June and set the hearing for 23 June at 15:00, to be held in person at Bolsonaro’s residence where he is serving a humanitarian house‑arrest sentence.
The weapon, a 9 mm Glock, was confiscated on 15 June during a police checkpoint in Taguatinga, Federal District, when a Honda Civic belonging to a member of the President’s Institutional Security Office (GSI) was stopped. The driver said the pistol had been handed to him for repair by a security guard. The gun’s owner was identified as Bolsonaro, a fact his lawyers later acknowledged. Police attempted to serve a summons on Bolsonaro on 17 June, but his escort team blocked the process. Moraes also ordered Bolsonaro’s defence to report whether any night‑time security personnel are exempted and to name a health professional to accompany him during the house‑arrest period.
