Supreme Federal Court resumes Bolsonaro coup attempt trial
The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has resumed hearings in the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies. The proceedings concern charges of attempted coup d'état and crimes related to a military coup plan following the 2022 elections.
During this phase, ten defense witnesses for General Augusto Heleno are scheduled to be heard. Notable witnesses include General Carlos Penteado, the former executive secretary of the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI), and former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga. Queiroga is also set to testify as a witness for former Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto.
The hearings are expected to conclude by June 2. Following the conclusion of testimonies, the court will enter a stage for final arguments from both the defense and the prosecution, lasting 15 days, before the rapporteur sets a date for the interrogation of the defendants.
