Brazil Supreme Court resumes Bolsonaro coup attempt trial

The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has resumed hearings in the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies. The case involves allegations of an attempted coup d'état and crimes related to a military coup plan following the 2022 elections.

This week, the court is hearing ten defense witnesses for General Augusto Heleno. Notable witnesses include former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga and former GSI executive secretary Carlos Penteado. The proceedings are scheduled to continue with testimony from witnesses for other figures, including Anderson Torres and Bolsonaro himself, with hearings expected to conclude by June 2.

Following the testimony phase, the court will move to the final arguments stage, where both the prosecution and defense will submit written statements within a 15-day period. The judge will then set a date for the interrogation of the defendants.
