Brazil Supreme Court resumes Bolsonaro coup attempt trial
The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has resumed hearings in the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies. The case involves allegations of an attempted coup d'état and crimes related to a military coup plan following the 2022 elections.
During the current phase, the court is hearing testimony from defense witnesses for General Augusto Heleno. Notable witnesses include former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga and former GSI executive secretary Carlos Penteado. The hearings follow previous testimonies from witnesses representing the Prosecutor General's Office and other figures such as Mauro Cid and Alexandre Ramagem.
The hearing process is scheduled to continue through early June. Following the conclusion of witness testimonies, the defense and prosecution will have 15 days to submit written final arguments. The court will then set a date for the interrogation of the defendants.
