Brazil Supreme Court resumes Bolsonaro coup trial

The Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) resumed hearings on June 26 in the case against former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies accused of attempting a coup and related crimes after the 2022 elections. Defense witnesses included former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga, former GSI head General Carlos Penteado, and others linked to the Bolsonaro administration. Earlier testimony had featured prosecution witnesses and additional defense figures such as former Justice Minister Anderson Torres.

The court will continue hearing witnesses through early June, after which written final arguments will be submitted. The trial’s decisive phase, including the defendants’ interrogations, is expected to conclude with a judgment projected for September‑October 2024.
