Brazil's Supreme Court resumes Bolsonaro coup attempt trial
The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has resumed hearings in the legal proceedings against former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven of his allies. The case investigates an alleged attempt to execute a coup d'état and various crimes linked to a military coup plan following the 2022 elections.
During this phase, the court is scheduled to hear ten defense witnesses for General Augusto Heleno. Other witnesses, including former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga and former GSI executive secretary Carlos Penteado, are also part of the proceedings. The hearings are expected to continue through June 2.
Following the conclusion of witness testimonies, the defense and prosecution will have 15 days to submit written final arguments. The court anticipates that the trial for the “crucial core” of the case will be scheduled for judgment between September and October of this year.
