Jair Bolsonaro trial resumes in Brazil's Supreme Court
The Supreme Federal Court (STF) has resumed hearings in the trial involving former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies. The proceedings focus on an alleged attempted coup d'état and related crimes following the 2022 elections.
During this phase, the court is hearing testimony from ten defense witnesses for General Augusto Heleno. Notable witnesses include General Carlos Penteado, the former executive secretary of the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI), and former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga. Queiroga is also expected to testify as a witness for former Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto.
Scheduled testimony for the current week includes former Justice Minister Anderson Torres and former President Jair Bolsonaro. The hearing process is expected to conclude on June 2, after which the defense and prosecution will have 15 days to submit written final arguments before the court sets a date for the defendants' interrogations.
