Brazil Supreme Court resumes trial of former President Bolsonaro over alleged coup
Brazil's Supreme Court (STF) resumed hearings on June 26 in the case against former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies accused of attempting a coup after the 2022 elections. The court will hear ten defense witnesses linked to General Augusto Heleno, including former GSI secretary‑executive Carlos Penteado and ex‑Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga, among others.
Earlier sessions heard prosecution witnesses and defense testimonies from figures such as former aide Mauro Cid and former minister Alexandre Ramagem. The hearings are slated to continue through early June, after which written final arguments will be submitted. The presiding panel, led by Justice Cristiano Zanin, is expected to schedule the defendants' interrogation and aim for a verdict between September and October of this year.
