Brazil Supreme Court to set temporary salary caps for judges in June

Supreme Court President Edson Fachin said the court will issue temporary rules by June to cap the pay of Brazil's judges. The measures will align salaries with the constitutional ceiling – the current STF minister salary of R$ 46,366 – and curb extra payments known as “penduricalhos” that can raise earnings to as much as R$ 78,800. Fachin also announced a forthcoming national bill, a transparency portal for about 18,000 judges, and a new ethics code for the court.

Separately, Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU) president Vital do Rêgo criticised the 60‑day vacation benefit enjoyed by TCU ministers, calling it “excessive generosity” and saying 30 days would be sufficient. He pledged to support any proposal that cuts the benefit and noted the TCU’s work on compensating pension funds harmed by the Bank Master scandal.
