Brazil survey: 1 in 5 students have engaged in online betting

A new survey conducted by the Frente Parlamentar Mista da Educação in partnership with Equidade.info reveals that 20.4% of students in the final years of Elementary School II and High School in Brazil have engaged in online betting.

The study, which interviewed 1,912 students across 191 public and private schools, highlights several concerning trends:

• Early Exposure: Approximately 9.5% of children up to 11 years old reported having made at least one online bet. • Age Progression: Participation increases with age, reaching 49.7% among students in their third year of High School. • Gender Disparity: Male students show higher rates of participation, with 27.8% compared to 12.6% for females. In High School, 41.7% of boys have participated in betting.

In response to the findings and the violation of prohibitions regarding underage access to gambling platforms, specialists and parliamentarians are calling for stricter oversight and restrictions on advertising aimed at gambling games.
