Brazil Survey Finds Only 25% Debt‑Free, Money Issues Shape Romantic Relationships

A Genial/Quaest poll released on 10 June 2026 shows that just one in four Brazilians say they have no debt. Most respondents report having some level of indebtedness and a weakening purchasing power, with many believing the country's economic situation has deteriorated over the past year. Awareness of the federal debt‑renegotiation program Desenrola 2.0 is limited, though those who know it view it positively, even if its impact on household finances varies.

A separate Serasa and Instituto Opinion Box survey conducted between 19‑27 May 2026 reveals that 90 % of Brazilians prefer partners who save for the future, and 88 % consider good financial health an important trait. Money is cited as a major source of conflict in 45 % of relationships; nearly half of respondents have incurred debt, had a negative credit record, or taken loans because of a partner, underscoring the growing role of finances in personal compatibility and romantic stability.
