Brazil's Receita Federal to pay up to R$1,000 to 4 million taxpayers in IR cashback pilot

The Receita Federal announced a special "cashback" refund for the 2024 income‑tax (IR) year. On July 15 2026 it will deposit up to R$1,000 to about 4 million contributors who were not required to file a return for 2025 but had tax withheld in 2024. Eligibility requires a regular CPF, a Pix key linked to that CPF, and no pending tax issues. The consultation opens on July 8 2026 through the agency’s portal and mobile app, where an automatically generated declaration can be reviewed and corrected.

The pilot aims to return roughly R$500 million in total. About 13 % of the intended beneficiaries – around 500 000 people, including roughly 10 000 in Espírito Santo – will miss the payment because they lack a CPF‑linked Pix key. The program is separate from the regular IR restitution calendar and will be followed by the next ordinary batch on July 31.
