Brazil tech firms Netflix and PicPay launch new initiatives

Netflix has begun a pilot program that installs eye‑tracking cameras in 250 Brazilian households. The devices, developed with Australian firm Amplified Intelligence, monitor viewers’ gaze and facial expression while they watch TV, classifying attention as active, passive or absent. All processing occurs locally and no facial images are transmitted, with participants opting in and being compensated. Netflix aims to shift advertising metrics from impression counts to actual seconds of viewer attention, with results expected in the second half of the year.

Fintech PicPay completed a Nasdaq initial public offering, the first Brazilian listing there since 2021. The IPO raised US$500 million amid strong foreign demand from investors such as BlackRock, Coatue and Marcelo Claure. PicPay plans to expand credit services and launch a sports‑betting platform ahead of the World Cup, pending regulatory approval. The listing reflects growing appetite for emerging‑market assets and highlights Brazil’s role in attracting overseas capital.
