Brazil telecommunications firms expand fiber optic networks via Fust funding
Telecommunications companies in Brazil are expanding fiber optic networks through funding from the Telecommunications Services Universalization Fund (Fust).
Alloha Fibra has completed the first phase of a project in the interior of Pará, deploying 638 kilometers of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure. This phase reaches over 90,000 homes in municipalities including Abaetetuba, Bragança, and Tucuruí. The company plans to expand the network to 15 municipalities with a total of 1,800 kilometers of fiber and expects to reach an additional 224,000 households by the end of the year.
In Paraná, BNDES has approved R$ 20 million for Zaaz Telecom to expand its fiber optic network across ten municipalities, including Bom Sucesso and Prudentópolis. This is part of a larger R$ 131 million operation funded by Fust that also covers projects in São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The expansion aims to enable up to 19,000 new internet connections. Additionally, BNDES approved a separate R$ 26 million financing for Zaaz Telecom to purchase equipment and expand broadband and mobile services.
