Brazil to begin testing E35 ethanol-gasoline blend in September

Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy is expected to publish a testing plan for E35, a gasoline blend containing 35% anhydrous ethanol, later this month. Renato Cabral, the National Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, announced that the plan will be submitted to the technical committee of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) on September 11.

A ministerial ordinance is scheduled for publication on September 18, marking the official start of the testing process. This initiative follows the approval of the Future Fuel Law by the National Congress in 2024.

Officials noted that increasing ethanol blends can significantly impact the economy. For instance, the current E32 blend is projected to save approximately 1 billion liters of imported gasoline annually, reducing Brazil's dependence on foreign petroleum derivatives and improving the trade balance.
