Brazil Transport Minister George Santoro Announces New Road Works in Mato Grosso do Sul

On July 31, Transport Minister George Santoro attended a ceremony in Aquidauana, Mato Grosso do Sul, marking the delivery of a new stage of works on federal highway BR‑419. The event took place at km 240.4 near the Funrural Hospital and highlighted the federal government's effort to improve road safety, logistics and regional development along the strategic route that links several municipalities in the state.

In the same visit, Santoro announced that the 105‑kilometre stretch of federal highway BR‑262 between Terenos and Aquidauana will be duplicated. The project, funded with roughly R$ 70 million for the first 64‑kilometre segment to be completed by 6 August and a total of R$ 186.5 million for restoration works, is slated to begin construction in the second half of 2027 after environmental licensing and contractor selection. The federal government has also released an additional R$ 1 billion to DNIT to keep the works on schedule.
