Mato Grosso do Sul transport infrastructure upgrades

In early July 2026, the Brazil‑Paraguay Bioceanic Bridge, spanning the Paraná River, was reported to be near completion. The bridge is expected to enhance trade flows for Mato Grosso do Sul by providing a direct link between Brazil’s interior and Paraguay’s Atlantic corridor.

Later in July, Transport Minister George Santoro visited Aquidauana and announced the delivery of a new stage of works on federal highway BR‑419. He also unveiled plans to duplicate a 105‑kilometre segment of federal highway BR‑262 between Terenos and Aquidauana, with the first 64 kilometres slated for completion by early August and full construction to begin in the second half of 2027. Funding of roughly R$ 70 million for the initial segment and a total of R$ 186.5 million for restoration, plus an additional R$ 1 billion released to DNIT, underscores the federal government’s push to improve road safety, logistics and regional development in the state.
