Brazil truck sales fall 9% in first half 2026 despite June rebound

Registrations of trucks in Brazil dropped 9.4% in the first half of 2026, with 48,030 units filed compared with 53,009 in the same period a year earlier. The decline reflects ongoing pressure on the logistics sector, including low commodity prices and high leverage among transport operators.

June 2026 saw a notable uptick, recording 9,419 units – a 14.9% rise over May and 13.5% above June 2025 – driven by the second phase of the Move Brasil programme launched on 29 May. Operated by BNDES, the initiative makes R$21.2 billion in credit available to the sector; in its first month it approved R$10 billion in financing across 1,373 municipalities, with heavy‑truck purchases accounting for 58% of approvals. Fenabrave president Arcelio Jr. said the scheme “helps but does not solve” the market’s structural challenges and the federation has revised its 2026 sales outlook down to 102,245 units, a 7.8% drop from earlier projections.
