Brazil unlocks R$5.7 bn in 2026 budget
The Ministry of Planning and Budget issued a decree, published in the Diário Oficial da União on 30 November, that released R$5.741 billion of the 2026 federal budget. Of this amount, R$3.332 billion are discretionary spending, R$1.204 billion are parliamentary amendments, and R$2.523 billion will be allocated to the New Acceleration Program for Growth (PAC).
The ministries that received the largest shares are the Ministry of Cities (about R$1.2 billion), the Ministry of Transport (about R$1.0 billion) and the Ministry of Finance (about R$540 million). The total blocked volume fell from R$23.679 billion to R$17.937 billion. A phasing mechanism limits new commitments to R$47.46 billion until September, then to R$29.498 billion until November, and to zero in December.
Priority areas for the newly available resources include the Pix instant‑payment system, which will receive R$75 million for security, and education, which will obtain additional funding though the exact amount was not disclosed. Parliamentary amendments remain blocked at R$3.675 billion.
