Brazil updates e-Título app for 2026 election procedures

The Superior Electoral Court has updated the e-Título application for the 2026 elections, introducing a simplified process for voters to justify their absence from the polls. If a voter is outside their electoral municipality on election day, they can use the app's geolocation feature to justify their absence without submitting supporting documentation. This digital justification is available during voting hours.

Voters who fail to justify their absence on election day have up to 60 days following each round to submit a request via the e-Título app, the Electoral Self-Service portal, or in person at an electoral registry. In these cases, documentation proving the reason for absence must be attached for analysis. For the 2026 cycle, the deadline for the first round is December 3, 2026, and for the second round, it is January 8, 2027.

Regarding identification, voters must present at least one photo ID at the polling station, such as an identity card (RG), driver's license (CNH), passport, or work booklet. Even expired documents are acceptable for identity verification. The e-Título app can also serve as identification if it contains the voter's photo, which is available to those who have completed biometric registration.
