Brazil updates health residency regulations and expands dentistry programs

The National Multiprofessional Health Residency Commission (CNRMS) has regulated the participation of health residency students in additional educational activities. Under Resolution CNRMS nº 3/2026, the requirement for exclusive dedication does not prohibit residents from enrolling in compatible postgraduate programs, research projects, or academic activities such as seminars and congresses, provided they align with the program's pedagogical goals and do not compromise mandatory hours.

Furthermore, the regulation allows residents to receive scholarships or financial incentives for these activities without violating exclusive dedication rules, as long as the support does not constitute an employment relationship.

Separately, the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) has expanded its specialized training through the approval of two new dentistry residency programs: Dental Prosthesis – Surgical Clinic (four vacancies) and Endodontics (two vacancies). These programs, offered through the Faculty of Dentistry and the Maria Aparecida Pedrossian University Hospital, aim to enhance specialized care and patient safety within the Unified Health System (SUS).
