Brazil Ministry of Labor updates slave labor registry with 82 new employers

The Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment has updated its registry of employers found to have subjected workers to conditions analogous to slavery, commonly known as the “Lista Suja” (Dirty List). The October 2026 update includes 82 new entries, comprising 54 individuals and 28 legal entities, involving the rescue of 553 workers.

These cases are distributed across 21 Brazilian states. Minas Gerais recorded the highest number of new inclusions with 19 cases, followed by Bahia with eight. Notably, the state of Rondônia appears in the registry for the first time since the list's inception in 2003, following a case involving a public works contract.

Key sectors identified in this update include cattle ranching for beef production (8 cases), domestic services (7), charcoal production (6), coffee production (6), and building construction (5). While the number of new inclusions represents a 51.48% reduction compared to the April 2026 update, the registry remains a critical tool for transparency and risk management by financial institutions and international organizations.
