Brazil vaccination rates for pregnant women fall below targets

Partial data from 2026 indicates that immunization rates for pregnant women against Covid-19, Influenza, and dTpa in Brazil remain below the targets set by the Ministry of Health. While the national target for Covid-19 vaccination among pregnant women is 90%, the 2025 coverage was 54.94%, and 2026 partial data shows 55.32%.

In the state of Goiás, Covid-19 vaccination coverage for pregnant women is 46.85%. However, the vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), implemented in 2025, has seen high coverage, exceeding the 80% national target in Goiás with a rate of 84.81%.

Health officials emphasize that maternal immunization provides passive immunity to newborns, protecting them during their first six months of life. Jarbas Barbosa, director of the Pan American Health Organization, noted that timely access to vaccines and clear information are essential for neonatal protection.
