Brazil weather: Severe storms in South and intense heat in North and Center-West

Brazil is experiencing extreme weather contrasts, with severe storms in the South and Southeast and intense heat in the North, Northeast, and Center-West regions.

In the South, an extratropical cyclone and low-pressure systems are triggering storms, heavy rain, and high winds. Red alerts have been issued for western Paraná and northwestern Santa Catarina, with potential wind gusts exceeding 70-90 km/h and risks of hail and flooding. Significant damage has already been reported in Paraná, including the destruction of a century-old chapel in Rebouças and a large warehouse roof being torn off in Goioerê.

In the Southeast, a cold front is expected to bring storms and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, particularly affecting Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and southern Minas Gerais.

Conversely, much of the North, Northeast, and Center-West is under the influence of a large mass of warm, dry air. This is causing high temperatures, with Três Lagoas potentially reaching 41°C and Goiás seeing highs near 39°C. In the Northeast, low humidity levels are a concern, with some areas expected to see levels as low as 12% to 20%.
