Brazil widens Minha Casa, Minha Vida loans, adding Itaú and raising income caps
The federal Minha Casa, Minha Vida (MCMV) housing program will allow private bank Itaú to join as a lender starting in the second half of 2026. Itaú’s participation will target families in the newly created Faixa 4, whose monthly income ranges from R$ 9.6 k to R$ 13 k, and will finance properties up to R$ 600 k using SBPE funds, while Caixa Econômica Federal remains the program’s main operator.
Simultaneously, the Reforma Casa Brasil sub‑program, which funds home‑improvement loans, has upgraded its rules. The eligible household income ceiling is now R$ 13 k per month, interest rates have dropped below 1 % per month, repayment periods extend to six years, and individual loans can reach R$ 50 k for renovations, upgrades and accessibility improvements.
These adjustments aim to broaden credit access for middle‑income families, stimulate the construction sector and address Brazil’s housing deficit through both new construction and the upgrading of existing homes.
