Brazil wood and furniture exports slip in early 2026 amid tariffs and currency shifts
Brazil's wood export platform WoodFlow reported a 10% drop in export value and a 17% decline in volume for May 2026, despite a modest 2% annual increase. CEO Gustavo Milazzo cited seasonal factors, a stronger real, the end of EU and UK quotas for pine, and uncertainty over a pending 25% U.S. tariff under Section 301 as key drivers. He said, “Outros fatores que ponderamos terem contribuído para essa redução em nossos produtos carro‑chefe é a geopolítica internacional e a cotação do dólar…”.
In the furniture hub of Bento Gonçalves, the industry's association Sindmóveis recorded a 3.87% fall in nominal revenue to R$ 803.4 million and a 1.33% dip in exports to US$ 13.4 million in Q1 2026 versus the same period in 2025. President Cíntia Weirich noted, “O início de 2026 não foi animador para o polo moveleiro de Bento…”, adding that the sector remains resilient and is preparing for the Movelsul Brazil fair in August.
