Brazilian agricultural agencies call on producers to report rabies cases and wild boar sightings

The Secretaria de Agricultura e Abastecimento of Araraquara, São Paulo, urged rural producers and animal owners to prevent, detect early and promptly notify suspected rabies cases. The agency highlighted the role of farmers in identifying habitats of the vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus), reporting incidents through the e‑Sisbravet system, and maintaining a vaccination schedule for livestock and pets to curb the disease, which can cause rapid neurological deterioration and death.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, the Aprosoja/MS, with support from Fundems and Semadesc, launched a georeferenced monitoring panel for wild boar (javel) occurrences. Producers, agronomists, veterinarians and field technicians are encouraged to record sightings and damage with photos, videos and GPS data. The information will be validated and used to map distribution, guide control actions and mitigate economic, environmental and sanitary impacts of this invasive species on crops, infrastructure and livestock.
