Brazilian art exhibitions open in Brasília and Rio de Janeiro

From July 9 to 31, the Casa de Cultura da América Latina in Brasília hosts the first edition of the Galeria da Mostra de Imagem em Movimento (Mapa), a free video‑art show featuring ten works that explore memory, territory and the legacy of the Carajás railway. The exhibition concludes the itinerant circuit that previously visited São Luís and Belém, coinciding with the celebration of five decades of video art in Brazil.

In Rio de Janeiro, museums and cultural centres present a packed programme that includes a major retrospective of Vik Muniz at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil through September, an urban‑art exhibition at the Caixa Cultural, and a series of folk, indigenous and contemporary art shows across venues such as the Museu do Folclore, the Museu de Arte do Rio and the Centro Nacional de Folclore e Cultura Popular. The Rio programme showcases works ranging from photography and painting to immersive installations, highlighting Brazil’s diverse artistic production.
