Brazilian authorities investigate counterfeit goods and fake diplomas
Authorities in Brazil have conducted separate operations targeting different types of forgery. In Mesópolis, São Paulo, the Civil Police arrested a merchant for selling counterfeit sporting goods. During the inspection, officers seized 122 items, including 107 football club jerseys and 15 Nike-branded shorts. The merchant, who claimed to source the products from the Brás district in São Paulo, paid bail and will remain free pending judicial proceedings.
In Macapá, the Federal Police executed search and seizure warrants as part of an investigation into a scheme involving the falsification of academic documents. The probe was initiated following reports from the Regional Council of Social Service of Amapá regarding inconsistencies in diplomas, transcripts, and certificates attributed to a private higher education institution.
Investigators found evidence of unauthorized distance learning, forged signatures, and irregular diploma issuances in several municipalities. The operation aims to gather evidence against institution leaders and intermediaries potentially involved in the falsification of public documents and ideological falsehood.
