Brazil authorities seize large quantities of tirzepatide

Law enforcement agencies in Brazil have conducted multiple operations resulting in the seizure of large quantities of tirzepatide, a medication used for diabetes and weight loss. These seizures, often involving products of foreign origin from Paraguay, have been discovered hidden in various locations, including spare tire compartments of vehicles and within other cargo.

In Paraná, significant seizures occurred in Irati and Umuarama, where hundreds of ampoules were recovered. One specific operation in Irati intercepted 1,200 ampoules valued at approximately R$ 135,000. Other incidents involved the apprehension of medications alongside electronics and other contraband. In one instance, local council members in Rolândia were intercepted by police while transporting tirzepatide and other goods from Paraguay.

Authorities note a record increase in the seizure of weight-loss medications at the Brazil-Paraguay border, with over 76,000 confiscations reported in the first half of 2026. The Federal Police and Receita Federal are investigating these cases to determine the origin and destination of the products, highlighting risks associated with non-regulated medications that lack Anvisa approval.
